Body

Caribou are mammals.
They are 4 to 5 feet
(1.2 to 1.5 meters) tall.
Thick brown and white fur
keeps them warm.
They have large antlers
and flat, wide hooves.

Habitat

Caribou live in cold northern
parts of the world.
In the summer, they live far
up north on the tundra.
During the fall, caribou
migrate south. They spend
the winter in snowy forests.

Food

Caribou eat berries,
leaves, and grass.
During the winter, their food
is buried under the snow.
They dig through deep snow
with their large hooves.

Life Cycle

Female caribou give birth
in the spring. One caribou
is born at a time.
After only one day, a young
caribou can walk
on its own. Caribou live
for 15 years in the wild.

  • Male caribou use their
    antlers to fight.
  • Caribou live together
    in groups called herds.
  • Caribou migrate longer
    distances than any other
